Get ready for a totally unique adventure challenge weekend! Run, ride and kayak as many of our specially designed adventure loops as you can in a 10 hour period – colour-coded green, blue and red for Ratracers of all abilities! Everyone is welcome. This is a solo challenge but there are discounts for those that want to take it on in pairs or groups of 5. Check out the format HERE.
Brought to you by Rat Race, the UK’s largest and most-trusted adventure event operator. We present a multi-sport adventure weekend in the hills with an engaging and innovative new format plus a stunning fully-serviced campsite and all the usual Rat Race bells and whistles…

Well, we’ve taken the very best trails we can find in the stunning Glanusk Estate, plus the surrounding mountains of the Brecon Beacons. Throw in a river too and you have the canvas on which we have painted our newest offering – the Rat Race Adventure Challenge.

We have designed 3 x bike loops, 3 x run loops and we have 1 x kayak ‘loop’ too (it’s not really a loop as it’s on a river but it is very nice indeed).

Collect a wristband for each loop you complete.
How far can you run, ride and kayak?

These loops are colour coded and the colours depict distance and difficulty:

RUN

GREEN RUN: Approx 5km, fairly flat surfaces and suitable for all abilities.

BLUE RUN: Approx 10km, undulating with some rough ground in parts.

RED RUN: Approx 18km, full mountain route with multiple steep and rough sections.

BIKE*

GREEN BIKE: Approx 10km, fairly flat and suitable for all abilities.

BLUE BIKE: Approx 20km, fast and flowing with some steeper and rough sections.

RED BIKE: Approx 35km, mountain loop with big ups and downs and technical sections.

*You must organise your own bike.

KAYAK

GREEN KAYAK: Approx 2km, ‘up and down’ the River Usk (1km in each direction). This is a lovely stretch of river, picturesque, not fast flowing, so you can push it hard, or take it steady. Utilise our stable double sit-on-top kayak fleet by buddying up with an old mate or meeting someone new.  Kayaking equipment and safety cover provided.

HOW FAR CAN YOU RUN, BIKE AND KAYAK IN 10 HOURS. DEPENDING ON HOW HARD YOU WANT TO PUSH IT, (OR HOW MUCH TIME YOU WANT TO SPEND IN THE BEER TENT) WILL DICTATE HOW YOU TACKLE THE CHALLENGE.

For all participants, the courses open at 0800 and close at 1800. Registration is open until 10am for those wanting to start later. You therefore have 10 hours to do as much or as little as you wish. Every lap you do will bag you a corresponding colour-coded rubber wristband – so do the blue run loop, you get a blue band and so on.

You can run the same loop loads or try the different ones out, if you want to gradually start upping the ante on distance of skills. Complete 1 loop each of run, bike and kayak to bag the finishers medal.

Make a weekend of it and book your camping here!

STANDARD CHALLENGE

Choose to do as little or as much as you wish in a 10 hour period. Go as far as you can, whether that is 5km or 150k, on any combination of green, blue and red routes. If you complete 1 each of the run, bike and kayak, you will receive our finisher’s medal. Plus for every lap you do, you get a corresponding colour coded wristband. Get all seven and the 100K wristband is yours.

100K CHALLENGE

For folk that want to commit from the start to hit the hundred and go for all 7 laps within the time limit of 10 hours – that is 100km in total. If you sign up for this, you will receive a special 100K Challenge singlet at Registration to wear with pride on the course plus a special gold 100K Challenge medal in addition to the standard medal upon completion of the 100km. Those that take this upgrade will also be issued with a satellite tracker so we can monitor your progress and have access to a dedicated 100K Challenge transition area during the 10 hour period. That is one long day out. You will still rack up all the wristbands for each lap completed. By the end of the event, you may well look like Mr T, with medals jangling and wristbands seriously weighing you down off both arms!

Never get lost

Forget dodgy junctions or missing signs. Our run and bike routes are meticulously marked with high-visibility colour-coded arrows throughout. Keep your eyes peeled and you can’t go wrong.

Paramedic support

We use paramedic and EMT medical staff to spearhead our event medical cover. Backed up by experienced water safety personnel and first aid qualified event crew. You’re in good hands, whatever the course may throw at you.

Good hydrations

We have a well-stocked water station in the event village so you can fill up between laps. You will also be able to access loos and medical help here, too.

The very best route design

Safe, fun and spectacular running and riding awaits!  We’ve been in this game longer than most, so we know how to design great routes that keep you guessing about what’s around the next corner!

You’re supported throughout

All of our event sites are covered by personnel with radios. If you need to leave the course for whatever reason, our fleet of 4×4 event vehicles is on stand-by to get you back to base, supported by our comprehensive radio communications and event control room.

Let us
entertain you!

Each loop will have a sound system blaring fat choonz somewhere around the course. So if you hear Abba blaring from the woods…our apologies indeed!

Cool Kit

Get a Rat Race tech tee, free finisher photo, Pit Stop bar, medal and lap wristbands included in your entry fee!

Keep your stuff secure

There will be a manned transition area to leave your bike while registration and the course is live on Saturday. Campers will be able to lock their bikes to barrier fencing we set up in the campsite. Your keys and valuables can be left in our free valuables drop during the challenge.

Kayak Equipment

Kayaks, buoyancy aids and paddles will be provided so you don’t need to bring any kit for this leg. You do need to supply your own bike.
